Boutique lounge

Customer requirements: Customer liked upcycled furniture, shabby-chic style and wanted a cosy, unusual, retro-style room. The customer had an existing large pine bookcase with glazed doors which had to be retained.

The design challenge: The lounge only had 2 single electrical sockets. A radiator restricted where the furniture could be placed. There needed to be lots of storage for books and other items. She needed to retain the antique table and cream leather armchair and she needed to have ample seating for large family gatherings. Walls were in poor condition.

Our Solution:

  • Changed the orientation of the room to maximise the space
  • Fixed wood panelling on lower walls
  • Added 8 double electrical sockets (regulation amount for room this size)
  • Removed doors on bookcase, stripped, repainted book case and painted knobs in contrasting colour
  • Painted metal lampshades to tone in with the colour pallet
  • Moved radiator under the window to maximise space
  • Added new sofa, armchairs and soft furnishings
  • Build bespoke chest of drawers with added funky knobs and painted drawers different colours to match colour scheme
  • Cost: £7,001 - £10,000
  • Project Year: 2015
